About this Event

Brené Brown has taught us what it means to dare greatly, rise strong, and brave the wilderness. Based on evidence research it's a culmination of 20 years research, the last 7 of which have been focused on leadership - conducted with leaders, change makers, and culture shifters, the new Dare to Lead curriculum will show us how to put those ideas into practice so we can step up and lead.

Leadership is not about titles or the corner office. It’s about the willingness to step up, put yourself out there, and lean into courage. The world is desperate for braver leaders. It’s time for all of us to step up.

This is a curriculum for developing brave leaders and courageous cultures. It’s learning and practice that requires brave work, tough conversations, and truly showing up. Daring leadership is a collection of four skill sets that are 100% teachable.

The curriculum addresses key challenges our research suggests that companies are grappling with:

1. We avoid tough conversations, including giving honest, productive feedback.

2. Rather than spending a reasonable amount of time proactively acknowledging and addressing the fears and feelings that show up during change and upheaval, we spend an unreasonable amount of time managing problematic behaviours.

3. Diminishing trust caused by a lack of connection and empathy.

4. Not enough people are taking smart risks or creating and sharing bold ideas to meet changing demands and the insatiable need for innovation.

5. We get stuck and defined by setbacks, disappointments, and failures, so instead of spending resources on clean-up to ensure that consumers, stakeholders, or internal processes are made whole, we are spending too much time and energy reassuring team members who are questioning their contribution and value.

6. Too much shame and blame, not enough accountability and learning.

7. People are opting out of vital conversations about diversity and inclusivity because they fear looking wrong, saying something wrong, or being wrong. Choosing our own comfort over hard conversations is the epitome of privilege, and it corrodes trust and moves us away from meaningful and lasting change.

8. When something goes wrong, individuals and teams are rushing into ineffective or unsustainable solutions rather than staying with problem identification and solving. When we fix the wrong thing for the wrong reason, the same problems continue to surface. It’s costly and demoralizing.

9. Organisational values are gauzy and assessed in terms of aspirations rather than actual behaviours that can be taught, measured, and evaluated.

10. Perfectionism and fear are keeping people from learning and growing. The common thread? How we deal with fear. We will teach the skills required to tackle these issues by becoming braver leaders.

Part 1 Rumbling with vulnerability - How we react to fear and choosing to lean in to risk, uncertainty and emotional exposure.

Part 2 Living into Our Values - Clarity on our values and the gap between our desired values and our behaviour.

Part 3 Braving Trust - How trust is built and destroyed in organisations.

Part 4 Learning to Rise – Resilience; failing forward (learning whilst failing).

Dare to Lead™ is for you if you are a leader who wants to become braver in your leadership.

The workshop will be facilitated by certified Dare to Lead™ Facilitators, Amber Farrier and Julie McVeigh, who bring a wealth of experience in guiding individuals and organisations through the difficult conversations needed to bring about change.

Individuals who successfully complete the full 24-hour Dare to Lead™ programme will receive a certificate of completion and are allowed to put a Dare to Lead™ Trained badge on their LinkedIn account. Please note this doesn’t qualify you to teach the curriculum.

Please note: while we do not offer refunds your place can be transferable to another participant. Please contact us to make any changes.
